Have you ever fascinated watching Asian movies? Well here in the Philippines, Filipinos had just totally embraced this, not only watching Asianovelas which starred famous actors and actresses from Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan but also with their blockbuster movies. And again, another Asian country had gained its popularity on the list of the countries that really captured Filipinos' interest for Asian movies. Thai movies (Thailand movies) had became more even popular and even reached Filipinos qualifications of highly-caliber films.
I can say that Filipinos are really film-lovers and have a very good sense of cinematography. And these reasons could really explain why they tend to love watching Asian films (even though they just rely on the subtitles to understand the dialogues of the characters). One thing that really catches the attention of a typical Filipino to fall in love with any Asian movie is when that movie has an "out of this world" love story. Filipinos are hopeless romantic and can easily relate to love stories that most Asian films had.
"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" which starred Thailand's brightest stars of their generation, Mario Maurer and Baifern, had totally hooked the Filipinos. I, personally, was able to see this Thai movie more than ten times already and I never regret watching this movie all over and over again. Well seriously, I was also hooked by this movie. So what's with this movie that made its Filipino watchers to go crazy over it?
The movie is a typical love story of an ugly girl named Nam who fell in love with a cute guy in their school named Shone. Nam was really in loved with Shone and did everything to be noticed by changing everything with her (from her looks to her study habits). She tried to change everything in herself from being just a "bug-faced" girl to a glamorous and one of the good-looking girls in their school. She tried everything to really look good like a caterpillar going through the process of metamorphosis. Though she faced a lot of hardships and sacrifices (that includes a lot of discriminations from other people especially from Faye, a good looking girl who happened to be her rival in most of the scenes in the movie), still at the end, she blossomed to be a beautiful lady like a butterfly coming out from its cocoon. She used her love as an inspiration to transform herself to be a better Nam.
But what about Shone? Well, at the beginning of the story, he never really showed interest to Nam. But as the story goes on, that boy had also showed some thoughts about the "transforming" Nam especially when Nam had became Top's girlfriend who happened also to be his bestfriend. Unlike Nam, the Shone in the movie was someone afraid of trying things and has a fear of failing. At the end, the story had also revealed that Shone had felt the same way with Nam that at the very first time they met, he had also fell in love with the "bug-faced" Nam. In fact, he even created a scrapbook that contains pictures that tells everything about what he feels for Nam and tells how he was that coward guy secretly in loved with her. Well, I can't judge Shone at all. He and Top had promised each other not to fall in love with the same girl so he was just keeping that promise as a bestfriend even sacrificing his own happiness. (what a loyal friend :)).. They finally separated ways after Nam confessed what she really feels for Shone and after she found out that her Shone and Pin (Shone's closest friend) have a relationship. The heartbroken Nam then chose to go to U.S. to be with her dad without even knowing that Shone had also fell in love with her. Shone on the other hand had also left after he was chosen to be trained as part of the soccer team.
The story ended when the successful fashion designer Nam was invited for a TV interview, about 9 years later. Then, Nam was then surprised to see Shone there when the host had also invited him on that interview. Finally, Nam cried into tears after she found out that Shone was actually waiting for her to arrive from abroad. The ending of the movie is a sort of disappointing and very simple, but on the other hand the simplicity of the story had really made to its viewers to relate on it.
Just recently, ABS-CBN, Philippines' leading TV network had aired the Tagalog-dubbed version of this movie. Although a lot of scenes were deleted, I would say that again, it flamed up the passion of the Filipinos to really appreciate Thai movies like this one. Based from those Facebook posts of its avid fan after watching this movie and other side comments I had read from the internet, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" had really gone phenomenal and now really put its mark along with Philippines' most watched movies. Well, there's only one thing that I could say about it, Thai fever is on!!

Here's the movie's theme song. Though I don't really understand its lyrics but still I really like it.
